Protected Areas

Large parts of the Cairngorms are Protected Areas and a map is available below which shows the Estate and the immediate area in this context. The various European Union designations are in recognition of the suite of birds and habitats found here. In connection with this any proposed activity or event which is planned to be held on the Estate requires prior notification and approval from the Estate owners (Highlands and Islands Enterprise).
The Estate now forms part of the newly created Cairngorms National Park and is further recognition of the special qualities both of the natural and cultural heritage that are to be found. A map can be downloaded which details the National Park boundary.
