Statement by Bob Kinnaird, Chief Executive, CairnGorm Mountain Ltd.
“CairnGorm Mountain Ltd has not seen the draft report on ERDF funding, and therefore it would be inappropriate for us to comment on this in any detail. However, recent reports within some sectors of the media on the use of European Regional Development funding for several projects within the Scottish Highlands have used pictures and film footage of the CairnGorm Funicular Railway to illustrate their editorial comments.”
“In some ways, this is very flattering as it illustrates how effective we have been in promoting our development and how much of an icon it has become in such a short time. On the other hand, it may also have created unnecessary and unjustified concern over our operation when, in fact, no such unease is being directed at CairnGorm Mountain whose professional integrity remains intact.”
“CairnGorm Mountain Ltd., part of The CairnGorm Mountain Trust, is simply the operating company for the CairnGorm Funicular and rents the railway, its rolling stock, tracks and operational buildings from HIE who are the owners not only of the railway but also of much of the land and buildings within the Cairngorms Ski Area.”
“At the end of the day, the success of CairnGorm Mountain will be measured on economic, social and environmental factors and I can confidently report that we are doing well on all three criteria. Interestingly, the only visit we have had from officials of the European Commission was last summer and they were very impressed by what we had achieved in such a short period of time.”
