To some, it may seem a far cry from balancing the books to balancing people’s leisure and entertainments need but not at CairnGorm Mountain where Helen Wink is already settling into her new role as the company’s Sales and Events Co-ordinator. Although originally from Coupar Angus, Helen has lived in Kingussie for the past 23 years and has spent the last three years at CairnGorm in the Finance department as an accounts assistant.
However, Helen is well used to dealing with visitors’ needs for in her earlier career, she spent some time working in the local Tourist Information Office as well as a spell with the Highland Folk Museum at Kingussie, where Helen, as a committee member for the Kingussie Arts Network and Treasurer of Talla na Ros, is very much part of the local community. In what other spare time she has, and there can’t be that much left with three teenage children to attend to as well as Duncan, her husband who teaches at the local High School, Helen is also a director of the Badenoch Community Project.
In her new post at CairnGorm Mountain, Helen’s primary role is in administering the booking systems for events such as group bookings, education visits, corporate dinners and, of course, the occasional wedding, and then pulling all the bits and pieces to together to ensure that things always run smoothly. Commenting on her new role, Helen said “It’s very much a people-focussed job and I have always enjoyed meeting and mixing with people from all walks of life and different parts. Making people happy is always very rewarding but, in this job, it requires paying attention to detail and that is the challenge of it all.”
“In a nutshell, my job is to take the stress out of people’s events and to let them concentrate on enjoying themselves while I, along with others in the team, make it all happen for them. CairnGorm Mountain already enjoys a great reputation for its quality events and I am looking forward to being part of the team that ensures that these high standards are maintained.”
Among the first events with which Helen Wink will be involved is a major sales conference later this month for Tennent Caledonian Breweries and then, on Friday 1st October, “Mountain Feast”, one of the highlights of this year’s Highland Feast, the North of Scotland’s popular food and drinks festival.
Keeping customers happy these days at CairnGorm Mountain is done with a smile … and a Wink!
