Plate spinning, juggling, uni-cycling, stilt walking, balloon modelling, clown and slapstick comedy are not exactly the skills or activities that you might expect normally to find close to the top of a Scottish mountain. But for the next seven weeks – on Thursdays 15th and 29th July, and 12th and 19th August – that’s exactly what will be happening when Fuzzy and Britta’s Circus School appears at CairnGorm Mountain this summer. Fuzzy will also be on site entertaining everyone every Wednesday from 14th July to 18th August.
Fuzzy, a well-travelled Scotsman, and his German partner Britta are both multi-skilled circus school instructors with international performing and teaching practice and their Circus School well and truly covers the whole range of circus skills. Although the Circus School regularly performs abroad – as well as across Scotland with great success in Nurseries, Primary and Secondary schools as well as special needs schools - Fuzzy and Britta will bring their full range of skills and equipment to CairnGorm Mountain on a regular basis this summer, offering youngsters an opportunity – completely free of charge - to try their hand at the various circus skills under the watchful eye of two real experts. Skills being shown, or on offer to try, will include plate spinning, juggling (with balls, scarves, clubs, or rings), Diabolo, Devil Stick, Staff, club and poi-swinging, pedalgo, fun wheel, unicycle, mini-bike, stilt walking, balloon modeling, clowning, prop manipulation, as well as slapstick and situation comedy. “We can juggle and entertain in six languages”, says Britta who adds: “This does not only mean we can perform internationally but also gives a big advantage for open air events here at home in Scotland. For example, our Circus School sessions at CairnGorm Mountain this summer will certainly attract tourists who have already come from all over the world to enjoy the spectacular scenery and we can add to their enjoyment by offering our circus show and its associated workshops in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Gaelic - and yes, in English as well!” Said Fiona Milligan, CairnGorm Mountain’s Marketing Executive: “It’s important to offer something special to our younger market and everyone loves circus clowns and street jugglers. Fuzzy and Britta offer more than that for their CairnGorm Sessions will also provide the opportunity to have a go to anyone who has ever watched street performers or circus clowns and thought ‘I could do that’ or ‘I would like to try that myself. Their sessions have already been very popular with youngsters in other parts of the country, and in Europe, and given friends and family a chance to have fun and laughs and as well as gaining a new experience. And who knows what aptitudes might just emerge when people try their hand at juggling, plate spinning and even uni-cycling!”
“One of the really good things about it is that the Circus School at CairnGorm Mountain is also free of charge! So, it’s simply a case of people coming along, finding out where they are performing on site and then joining in with them.”
Fuzzy will be entertaining each Wednesday between 10am and 4pm in different areas of CairnGorm Mountain from 14th July to 25th August and Fuzzy & Britta’s Circus School will run at Base Station level all day from 10am until 4pm on Thursdays, 15th and 29th July and on Thursday 12th and 19th August.
