Hamish Clark, star of BBC Scotland/Ecosse Films hugely popular "Monarch of The Glen" series, has taken off his trademark kilt and boots to raise money for the new Maggie's Centre for the Highlands, currently being built in Inverness. For the quite unique gift from the Dundee-born actor, who plays Duncan, the fun-loving Head Ranger at Glenbogle, in the series that now commands huge worldwide audiences, will be part of the charity auction at the now annual Monarch Dinner being held next Friday (18th) in The Ptarmigan at the top of the CairnGorm Funicular railway. In previous years, Clark has run the charity auction in his own irreverent and hilarious style but this year he is handing over that part of the evening to fellow actor and ex-professional footballer, Martin Compston, star of Ken Loach's controversial "Sweet Sixteen", to enable him to take centre stage as the principal speaker. The charity auction, in which Hamish Clark's signature clothing of Duncan's kilt and boots would certainly be seen as a collector's item, is expected to raise several thousand pounds for Maggie's Centre, now nearing completion. Another auction item that would also fall into the category of a "collector's piece" is a signed copy of Harry Potter Book 5 – The Order of the Phoenix - autographed by the author, JK Rowling - and the inclusion of both of these items has prompted the organisers of the Monarch Dinner to invite advance bids from people whom might wish to be involved in the fund-raising auction but cannot be there on the night. Said Heather Galbraith, CairnGorm Mountain's Sales Manager: "We can only accommodate 100 guests within The Ptarmigan and because these two auction items, in particular, are so unique, we thought that it would encourage our fundraising for this very special cause if collectors, and others, who could not be there could still be involved. For that reason, we are accepting advance bids and are prepared to take reserved bids in writing, either by FAX to 01479 861207 or by e-mail to info@cairngormmountain.com ." Other auction items to be sold off on the night include a one hour personal flight from Inverness across the Scottish Highlands, and an autographed Scotland rugby shirt signed by the Scotland squad that will host Japan, Australia and South Africa at Murrayfield in the Abbey Autumn Test series. A few tickets are still available for this quality gala evening in a quite stunning setting; tickets priced individually at £65 each or at £650 for a table of ten are available from 01479 861341. All profits from the evening are going towards the new Maggie's Centre being built in Inverness
