The annual Coaching Award, open to amateur coaches throughout Badenoch and Strathspey, received a massive boost this week when local Olympic skier and sports personality, Alain Baxter confirmed that he would be available to present the Award at a special Sporting Chance evening in The Ptarmigan Restaurant, at the top of the CairnGorm Funicular, on Saturday, 5th June.
The Sporting Award Dinner is once again in aid of the Badenoch and Strathspey Schools' Snowsports Association though the format of this year's event is very much changed from the relatively formal dinners of previous years with a guest speaker. This year’s event takes the form of a Casino and Ceilidh Night with the usual range of casino-style games and live music from Mak-a-Rak-it who will keep toes tapping into the wee small hours. The dress theme for the Sporting Chance evening is quite simply Black and White.
"Getting an international sporting figure like Alain Baxter to accept an invitation to present the award shows how much prestige is now attached to it by someone who understands the importance of quality coaching in developing skills", said Fiona Milligan, CairnGorm Mountain's Marketing Executive. "This year's award has attracted more nominations than in previous years and with the new style of event for the presentation, we are expecting an even bigger gathering that usual."
Tickets for the Sporting Chance evening @ £20 each are still available via 01479 861341.
The nominations for this year's Award are Alistair Stirling, Football Coach of Aviemore Boys' Club; Jimmy Gow, Coach at Kingussie Shinty Club; Ian Murray, golf coach at Boat of Garten Golf Club; and William Munro, a Kingussie Badminton Coach and last year’s winner, Warren De-Vry of the Highland Blackbelt Academy in Grantown on Spey. The winner will be decided by a panel of judges from the local area Sports Council over the next week and will be announced at the Sporting Chance event on 5th June.
