A new series of five fascinating illustrated talks followed by a two course lunch in the Ptarmigan Restaurant will be taking place throughout May and June of 2004. Our guest speakers are all experts in their field and will tackle some of the most popular topical issues often asked about by visitors on site.
Dates and topics are as follows: 14th May Tim Whittome Funicular Railways/CairnGorm Mountain Railway 28th May Ewan MacLeod The Cairngorms - take a closer look! 11th June Sally Dowden Mammals of Speyside and Wildlife Tourism in the Cairngorms National Park 18th June Nic Bullivant Recreation & Conservation at CairnGorm Mountain 25th June Andy Gray Digital Landscape Photography
On 11th June, Sally Dowden, a partner in Speyside Wildlife and resident of Rothiemuchus Estate will talk about the ‘Mammals of Speyside and Wildlife Tourism in the Caringorms National Park’. Speyside Wildlife is Scotland’s leading wildlife tour operating company which is based in Badenoch and Strathspey and offers tours in this country and worldwide, from the Arctic to the Antarctic! The following week, on the 18th June, Nic Bullivant will be delving into the often contentious subject of ‘Recreation and Conservation at CairnGorm Mountain’. Nic has been the Head Ranger at Cairngorm since 1997 and wrote the Monitoring Scheme by which the impacts of the recent development are measured. He is also a landscape photographer who enjoys mountain recreation as much as anyone. His perspective is unique and certainly not to be missed! Finishing off the series on the 25th June, Andy Gray, a renowned photographer will be talking about ‘Digital Landscape Photography’. Andy has transformed digital photography with a distinctive process that produces pictures of amazing clarity, with an almost three-dimensional effect. He works mainly on a commission basis, and CairnGorm Mountain were fortunate to secure his services to provide the viewing terrace interpretation. He will provide an insight into his work, some of the fundamentals of digital photography and of course some practical advice on taking that perfect picture!
