Since officially opening its doors some 15 months ago, CairnGorm Mountain has been transformed from being simply a high profile winter sports area into one of Scotland’s major year-round visitor attractions. For CairnGorm Mountain now offers visitors of all ages and abilities a wide range of activities, including the country’s only high-speed mountain railway, the UK’s highest restaurant with its magnificent panoramic view, a popular hands-on mountain exhibition, several mountain trails and a remarkable mountain garden.
Always looking for innovative visitor attractions, CairnGorm Mountain has come up with something totally different for the schools’ holiday weeks in October (from Saturday 11th to Sunday 26th October) with a range of two-dimensional mazes and puzzles being located at both the Base and Top Stations of the CairnGorm Funicular. The new temporary attractions at A-mazing Mountain are completely free of charge and have been designed to stimulate visitors’ minds and imaginations. While the mazes and puzzles are primarily aimed at the younger age groups, experience elsewhere has shown that they also generate as much interest among adults as much as children.
Said Tania Adams, CairnGorm Mountain’s Marketing Manager: “Mazes are simply puzzles and mental challenges but, strangely enough, people’s images of a maze are still based on rows of hedges! Clearly that would be impossible at this altitude but we are installing mazes that are puzzles in other ways. We will have jumping mazes, mathematical mazes, coloured pathway mazes and even finger mazes and are sure that they will add to the enjoyment of the visit to CairnGorm Mountain.”
“During last year’s October half-term weeks, exactly 25% of our ticket sales were for family tickets and, as a further incentive this year, we are offering from Monday to Friday an opportunity for accompanied children to eat free-of-charge at The Ptarmigan Restaurant. For every hot meal purchased from the main menu by an accompanying adult, or adults, a child’s meal from the same menu is provided free-of-charge.”
Family tickets on the CairnGorm Funicular operate at two levels, priced at £22 (for two adults and 2 children aged 16 and under with a third child travelling free) or at £16 (for one adult and 2 children aged 16 and under). The first train each day leaves the Base Station at 10.00am with the last train down at 5.15pm.
