As the official opening ceremony for the Cairngorms National Park will be held within The Ptarmigan Restaurant at the top of the CairnGorm Funicular on Monday, 1st September, all of the visitor facilities at CairnGorm Mountain, with the exception of the Day Lodge, the various mountain trails and the new CairnGorm Mountain Garden, will be closed to the public on that day. Pre-booked groups, including coach parties, have already been advised and offered alternative dates for their proposed visit to one of the country’s most successful visitor attractions.
Said Bob Kinnaird, the operating company’s Chief Executive: “At a time when we are welcoming record-breaking numbers to CairnGorm Mountain, it is unfortunate that we are having to close to the public for even a single day but we are greatly honoured to have been chosen by the new Cairngorms National Park Authority to host their official opening ceremony. The opening of the new Cairngorms National Park is a very significant milestone for both tourism and conservation in the area and, with such a large number of guests expected to attend, including many from outwith the area, it would have been quite impossible for us to have operated for visitors as normal.”
“As has been pointed out several times of late, the philosophy behind the country’s National Park is about balancing accessibility for people of all ages, and all abilities, with environmental, recreational and visitor management and, at CairnGorm Mountain, we are already demonstrating all of this on a daily basis, right at the heart of the National Park. Clearly, the new National Park Authority recognises this – otherwise we would never have been invited to host such a prestigious event – and we look forward to working in tandem with them for many years to come in developing the needs of tourism and conservation in a viable and sustainable fashion.”
CairnGorm Mountain will be open for business as usual on Sunday, 30th August with the last train of the day leaving the Top Station at 5.00 p.m. and will re-open to the public on Tuesday, 2nd September with the first train leaving the Base Station at 10.00 a.m..
