The road to CairnGorm Mountain is likely to be somewhat more congested than usual for a Christmas Eve afternoon when holiday visitors to Badenoch and Strathspey, along with many local people, are expected to want to be among the first to ride on the new CairnGorm Funicular. The new £15 Million boost to tourism across the Scottish Highlands was inaugurated yesterday (23rd) to coincide exactly with 40 years of skiing at CairnGorm but from 1.00 p.m. today fare-paying passengers will be able to experience the UK's only high-speed funicular railway.
Trains will also operate on Christmas Day with the first train leaving the Coire Cas Base Station at 10.40; Boxing Day services will begin at 09.40 hrs..
Said Tania Adams, the company's Sales & Marketing Director: "Unless skiing is possible, there is very little to see at the top but people will wish to come along and enjoy the experience. After so many procedural delays over the years, who can blame them?"
Ticket prices for the new CairnGorm Funicular are very much in line with those for other major visitor attractions across Scotland with adult tickets costing £ 7.50 and tickets for children (16 and under) costing £ 5. There will also be concession tickets at £ 6.50 for senior citizens and students along with a Family Ticket costing £ 25.00 being valid for 2 adults and 2 children with a third child travelling free.
Ends
Note: Bob Kinnaird (Chief Executive) and Tania Adams will be available for interview on site from 1.00 p.m. to coincide with the departure of the first train today (24th)
