Everyone Benefits from Coaching Award
Every year the Badenoch & Strathspey Sports Council presents the Community Coach Award to a local volunteer who has displayed outstanding commitment to the development of his or her community sport.

The coaching award was established to celebrate and recognise the contribution that volunteer community coaches make to the development of grass roots sports in the Badenoch & Strathspey area. Previous winners of the coaching award include Alistair Stirling (Football Coach of Aviemore Boys Club) and Kenny Deans (Coach Strathspey Rugby Club). The winner receives the Coaching Award and a grant for his or her club of £250.

This year submissions are also welcome from community based organisations who wish to use the event as a fund raising opportunity. In addition to recognising the work and dedication of volunteer coaches the evening also has a serious fund raising objective. Last year the beneficiary of the Sporting Chance event was the Strathspey Leisure and Recreation Trust and over £3000 was raised on the night for their community project. The 2006 event is seeking a worthwhile local cause to be the beneficiary of this years fund raising activities.
Previous award evenings have taken place in the Ptarmigan Restaurant and a number of local community groups including Strathspey Leisure Recreation Trust and the Badenoch & Strathspey Schools Snowsports Association have benefited from the fund raising activities of the evening.

Caroline Sterritt, Sports Development Co-ordinator for Badenoch & Strathspey said:
“We are looking for nominations for the unsung voluntary heroes who keep most of our local sports alive, but also nominations for a worthy local group who would benefit from the evenings fund raising activities – it may be the same club that nominates their own coach or it could be a completely different group. “.

There are some criteria for a club or organisation wishing to be considered as the fund raising beneficiary and they include:
Group must be formally constituted or a registered charity based in Badenoch and Strathspey
Be a voluntary organisation actively involved in the organisation/delivery of recreation activities for the community of Badenoch & Strathspey
Have a policy commitment of social inclusion and community involvement
Have a written constitution and produce annual accounts.

The nominated beneficiary will be expected to sell 140 tickets for the event and participate fully in the evenings fund raising activities.

Nomination forms for the coaching award are available from:
